An Apple a Day...

A lot of the things Clara puts into her mouth are not meant for human consumption (Elsi's ball, rocks, the grocery list...).  I think she was pleasantly surprised when she bit into this apple.  First, mama didn't take it away; and second, it tasted much better than the other objects she's tried!

Not bad for only eight teeth!

Tea for Two

Clara enjoyed a tea party in her tub last night.  She took pretend sips from her tea cup, which she followed with a convincing "Mmmmm."  She makes good bath tea.  Then she offered some tea to the plastic frog that protects the faucet spout.  She poured it right onto his painted-on smile and said "Mmmmmm."  So nice of her to share!

Clara's Birthday Party

We hosted Clara's first birthday party on June 12, so this post is out of sequence, but I wanted to share some of the pictures.  We had a BBQ with a bunch of good friends and their dogs.  It rained, so the dogs stayed outside, but Clara and Anna teased them at the window.

It was too wet for outside play, but Clara's new water table was still a big hit inside without the water.  Thanks, Grandma and Grandpa!

Presents and cake!  I think Clara knew the cake was a big treat.  After she realized we were going to let her eat it, she couldn't shove it in her mouth fast enough.  The frosting was her favorite part.

So cool!

No More Ear Infections (we hope)

Clara had surgery yesterday to get tubes in her ears.  She's had 8 or 9 ear infections since November.  She woke up angry, but was better after a snack.  She was her old self again by the time we got home.  Hopefully, she'll be healthy and be able to enjoy the rest of the summer!

Great Weekend!

We had a wonderful stay on our little island for the weekend, here are some of the highlights.  Jay caught a monster small mouth bass right near the swimming hole at our island.

Clara and Anna enjoyed the beach after a nice hike and a picnic lunch at The Balsams Resort.

We had fun watching the dueling fireworks and even made some sparks of our own.

We made it home safely on Monday and promptly installed the air conditioners.  We're in the middle of a good ol' New England heat wave.
